Recap

Preschool, page 7 of 7. A one-minute read.

  • A program is a list of precise instructions for a computer. Writing those instructions is called programming or coding.
  • Computers are extremely literal. They do exactly what you say, not what you mean.
  • A programming language is a language that both humans and computers can understand.
  • JavaScript (JS) is the programming language of the web. It's built into every major browser.
  • HTML is the structure of a web page, CSS is how it looks, and JavaScript is how it behaves.
  • JavaScript was created in 1995 by Brendan Eck in about ten days. It is not Java.
  • Today, JavaScript runs in browsers (front end), on servers (back end), in mobile and desktop apps, and more.
